Comprehensive identification of <scp>VX</scp>‐adducted plasma proteins using high‐resolution mass spectrometry

Abstract VX is one of the chemical warfare agents that attack victims' nervous systems and ultimately lead to their death. Upon exposure, circulating proteins in bloodstream can be modified with may produce diagnostic adducts. Thus, these adducts would key evidence for forensic investigation against or terrorism. In this study, we discovered a list potential blood protein biomarkers exposure. To do so, employed high‐resolution mass spectrometry‐based proteomics identified 18 VX‐adducted 32 adduct sites from VX‐treated human plasma samples. Furthermore, examined targets using data‐independent acquisition method obtained eight practically detectable biomarkers. Our results serve as valuable resource verifying nerve agent exposure under attack.
